"I want a love like I've seen in the movies, that's why I'll never fall in love."
Polarizing as the genre may be, there’s something timeless about a musical. Earworms from The Music Man to Wicked are perfect soundtracks for everyday life. Even songs not attached to musicals can have a magical quality that whisks you away into your own Broadway show or fantasy blockbuster. For PLAYBOY model Jessica, just listening to the music of Icelandic popstar Laufey (pronounced layfay) makes her feel like royalty.
“She sings a lot of very romantic, emotional songs. and I love it so much,” Jessica told PLAYBOY. “Also, they make me feel like I’m a princess from a Disney movie. My favorite song by her is ‘Like the Movies.'”
Laufey’s debut EP “Typical of Me” is the first album featuring the melodic and magical song. It was released a little more than a year after her celebrated single “Street by Street” topped Icelandic radio charts.
Much of the EP’s songs were written in her Berklee College of Music dorm room, which is a fairly impressive feat. Upon release, the album was praised by massively popular musicians like Billie Eilish and Willow Smith. Laufey even performed “Like the Movies” on Jimmy Kimmel Live in January of 2022.
Additionally, the song was performed and recorded at the Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík for Laufey’s first live album, “A Night at the Symphony.” Aside from the ability to make Jessica feel like a regular Snow White, Laufey’s jazzy melodies are perfect anytime music.
“I can listen to it on repeat while I’m at work, or I’m cooking up a storm,” Jessica says. “It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, I’ll just feel like a princess.”
